What is Minoxidil

Minoxidil is a clinically studied medication commonly used to support hair regrowth and help slow the progression of pattern hair thinning.

Originally developed as a treatment for high blood pressure, researchers observed that one of its side effects was increased hair growth. This led to the development of topical Minoxidil formulations specifically designed for scalp application.

Today, Minoxidil is widely used in the treatment of:

  • androgenetic alopecia (pattern hair loss),
  • general hair thinning,
  • and early-stage follicular miniaturisation.
How does minoxidil work

Minoxidil is believed to support hair growth through several biological mechanisms, including:

Supporting Scalp Circulation

Minoxidil may help improve blood flow around the hair follicle, supporting oxygen and nutrient delivery.

Prolonging the Growth Phase

Hair follicles naturally cycle through growth and shedding stages. Minoxidil may help extend the active growth phase (anagen phase).

Stimulating Dormant Follicles

It may encourage weakened or inactive follicles to re-enter active growth cycles.

Supporting Hair Density

With consistent long-term use, some individuals may experience improvements in hair thickness and overall density.

How fast are results

Hair regrowth with Minoxidil is gradual and varies between individuals.

Early Weeks

Some temporary shedding may occur as follicles transition into new growth cycles.

2–4 Months

Early signs of regrowth may begin to appear.

4–6 Months

Visible improvements in thickness and density may develop with consistent use.

Long-Term Maintenance

Continued application is usually required to maintain results over time.
